Your journey starts with a flight to Delhi. On arrival you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel, the classic Imperial - the capitals landmark hotel. If you are arriving early in the morning, we suggest a relaxing afternoon exploring the hotels fascinating collection of art and colonial memorabilia, before dining at one of the Imperial's outstanding restaurants, or venturing out to some of Delhi's new and up and coming restaurants.
Your first full day in India includes an extensive look around Delhi, with a flexible private guide. Starting at the Red Fort you’ll take a cycle rickshaw through the maze of narrow lanes that make up the bazaars of Old Delhi. Continuing on foot, your guide will bring the city to life as you visit the spice markets and the vast Jama Mahid Mosque that dominates Chandni Chowk. In the afternoon your tour of New Delhi takes in Lutyens imposing colonial architecture, and provides an insight into the British Raj. It is a captivating city of contrasts.
You will then be moving to Alwar. Your hotel, the outstanding Aman Resort sits in isolation amidst the arid Aravalli Hills. The resort echoes the region’s Moghul architecture and provides the opportunity to witness first hand the traditions and culture of rural India.
Drive to Jaipur, where you have two days to explore the colourful capital of Rajasthan. You’ll visit the famous Amber Fort and city palace, before winding your way through the markets with your guide. If you would like to do something a little different we can organise for you to visit the craftsmen in the old bazaars, take a ride on an elephant at Dera Amer, or even a hot air balloon over the city.
From Jaipur you head into rural Rajasthan and one of the highlights of your trip – Mihirgarh, a fascinating small feudal town, which seems to be straight out of the Arabian Nights. There is no proper road here - only one main dusts trail. On either side are typical thatched houses and shops of all kinds - colourful bangles, silver jewellery, potters, fruit vendors on carts, dress shops, tailors etc. In the morning you’ll take a tour of the local village and get an insight into rural life in Rajasthan.
After a couple of nights in the Golden City of Rajasthan Jaisalmer, your journey continues as you reach Jodhpur on the edge of the Thar Desert. Your time here includes a tour of the impressive Mehrangarh Fort, and a walk with your guide through the markets and bazaars.
From Jodhpur, you reach your final destination, the “Lake City” of Udaipur. Located at the foot of the Araveli Hills and set around the tranquil Lake Pichola, Udaipur is the perfect place to relax and unwind for a few days at the end of your journey.
